Jakarta. Vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming commented on his arguments during Sunday’s debate.

In a post-debate press conference, a reporter asked whether Gibran was in offense mode during the debate. Gibran said all he did was only exchange his views and explain his plans should he win the election.

“Offensive or not, that is up to the audience to decide. Thank you,” Gibran, who is the running mate to Prabowo Subianto, said.

“All I did was exchange my thoughts. I explained my visions and missions. That was all,” Gibran said.

Earlier that day, Gibran had asked rival Mahfud MD about how he would address green inflation. When asked by Mahfud and the moderator to elaborate on green inflation, Gibran said he assumed his rival already knew the definition.

“I did not explain because he is a professor,” Gibran said before finally giving the definition.

Mahfud replied by talking about the green economy. Mahfud also talked about how the Madura people –which he is part of– had long been embracing a circular economy by recycling their waste.

Gibran then responded: “I could not find the answer from Prof. Mahfud. … I was asking about greenflation, but then you decided to talk about the green economy.”

According to Gibran, Indonesia should pursue energy transition carefully by making sure that the huge amount of money needed for research and development (R&D) does not burden the people.

In response, Mahfud said: “You are making up the answers. That is an insubstantial question. There is no point in answering the question.”
