Mining Ranks Among Top 3 Investment Sectors in Indonesia
Jakarta. Investment in Indonesia’s mining sector remains robust, with the sector ranking among the top three industries for realized investment in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).
Investment Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani said mining investment reached Rp 102.2 trillion during the January–June period, underscoring strong interest from both domestic and foreign investors.
“The mining sector ranks third, with investment realization standing at Rp 102.2 trillion,” Rosan said during a press briefing at the Ministry's office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The top spot was claimed by the basic metal and fabricated metal industry (excluding machinery and equipment), which recorded Rp 134.4 trillion in investment. The transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sector followed in second place with Rp 110.7 trillion.
Rounding out the top five were the other services sector at Rp 85.7 trillion and the housing, industrial estate, and office sector at Rp 75 trillion.
Despite continued investment in extractive industries like mining, Rosan stressed the government’s commitment to the energy transition and the national net-zero emissions (NZE) agenda. He pointed to the integration of sustainable practices across sectors through new financing mechanisms and investment instruments.
He cited ongoing collaboration with state-owned electricity provider PLN to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in power generation.
The government has approved PLN’s 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), which targets an additional 69.5 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity, 47,758 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, and 107,950 MVA of substations.
Of this capacity, around 76 percent—equivalent to 52.9 GW—will be sourced from renewable energy and energy storage systems. This includes 42.6 GW (61 percent) from renewables, 10.3 GW (15 percent) from energy storage, and 16.6 GW (24 percent) from fossil fuel power plants.
Indonesia also aims to bolster energy resilience at the regional level by utilizing local resources such as geothermal, solar, and wind power.
“Indonesia is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2060, and we’ve already laid the groundwork to meet that goal,” Rosan said.
