Jakarta. LAKUEMAS is reaffirming its commitment to transparent transactions, responsible governance, and consumer education as Indonesia’s digital gold market develops, following the issuance of a new fatwa by the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI) on digital transactions involving physical gold.

Issued on Sept. 29, 2026, the fatwa provides Sharia guidance for buying and selling physical gold through digital platforms. Adopted at the DSN-MUI’s 61st plenary meeting, it adds a religious framework to the existing regulatory and governance arrangements for Indonesia’s digital gold industry.

DSN-MUI chairman K.H. M. Cholil Nafis said the guidance was intended to clarify Sharia principles as technology continues to reshape gold trading.

“The issuance of a fatwa on digital trading of physical gold is part of DSN-MUI’s efforts to provide clear Sharia guidance in line with developments in technology and innovation in electronic gold trading,” Cholil said. He expressed hope that the fatwa would provide greater certainty and strengthen public confidence in digital gold transactions conducted in accordance with Sharia principles.

For LAKUEMAS, the development underscores the importance of combining digital convenience with clear transaction mechanisms, accountable governance and consumer confidence.

Physical Gold at the Core of Digital Ownership

The company emphasizes that physical gold backing is a fundamental consideration when consumers assess digital gold products. Unlike a digital record of value alone, a physical gold-based product should be supported by arrangements for storing the metal, recording customer ownership and facilitating sales and physical withdrawals in accordance with applicable requirements.

Consumers, therefore, need to look beyond the convenience of buying gold and monitoring balances through an application. They should also understand a provider’s legal status, how ownership is recorded, how prices are determined and what conditions apply to selling or withdrawing their gold.

PT Laku Emas Indonesia, which operates the LAKUEMAS platform, is listed among digital gold traders licensed by Indonesia’s Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (BAPPEBTI), according to a press release from the Indonesian Digital Gold Traders Association (PPEDI) concerning the DSN-MUI fatwa.

The new Sharia guidance complements the existing regulatory framework by providing principles for digital transactions involving physical gold. Together, regulation, transparent trading practices and consumer awareness are important to developing a more credible and sustainable market.

Transparency and Consumer Education

LAKUEMAS Brand Manager Esther Napitupulu said the company viewed transparency and consumer education as essential to building lasting trust.

“Consumer confidence cannot be built on transaction convenience alone. It must be supported by transparency and clear governance,” Esther said.

She said LAKUEMAS was committed to providing clear information on transaction prices, ownership records, buying and selling procedures, and the terms governing physical gold withdrawals. Consumers also need to understand how physical gold supports their digital holdings and how that gold is managed, she added.

Esther said ongoing education was equally important in helping people compare digital gold services and make informed decisions about their assets.

For consumers, this includes understanding the difference between buying and selling prices, commonly known as the spread, as well as any applicable transaction conditions and withdrawal requirements.

Digital platforms can make gold ownership more accessible by allowing people to buy in smaller amounts. However, wider access also increases the importance of financial literacy, particularly as consumers evaluate the costs, risks and terms of different services.

LAKUEMAS said it would continue to promote responsible trading practices and improve consumer understanding as part of its contribution to the development of Indonesia’s digital gold ecosystem.

Backed by the Central Mega Kencana Group

LAKUEMAS is part of Central Mega Kencana (CMK), an Indonesian jewelry group whose brands include MONDIAL, Frank & co. and The Palace Jeweler.

The platform offers gold buying and selling services through its website, mobile application and physical retail locations. Customers can buy, store and sell gold, as well as arrange physical withdrawals, subject to the applicable terms.

According to the company, LAKUEMAS holdings are backed by physical gold bullion held at its headquarters, rather than being based on trading or futures contracts. Customers can also convert eligible digital gold balances into physical bullion at more than 100 partner stores operating under MONDIAL, Frank & co. and The Palace Jeweler. A LAKUEMAS automated gold withdrawal machine is located at Synthesis Square in Jakarta.

The company says its services are designed to offer accessible transactions, transparent pricing and efficient customer service, supported by its presence within the CMK retail network.

As Indonesia’s digital gold market evolves, LAKUEMAS sees the new DSN-MUI fatwa as an opportunity to strengthen public understanding of how digital gold transactions work and what underpins ownership.

The company said it would continue to emphasize transparency, responsible governance and consumer education in supporting a digital gold ecosystem that is more credible and sustainable.
