Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the main building of the military academy in Magelang on Monday.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, along with other senior military officials, were present during the inauguration ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, Prabowo also made final checks on the building which spanned 8,306 square meters. In his speech, Jokowi said that the expansion of the academy is expected to help produce more resilient and professional soldiers.

"I hope that with the addition of this facility, the academy will progress further, producing more resilient and professional soldiers ready to dedicate their best abilities," Jokowi said.

"The construction of this building will significantly boost our motivation to study even better because the educational facilities at the academy will become more complete, sophisticated, and modern," he said.

According to Prabowo, the building is part of the grand goal of improving military education institutions. “Hopefully, [the facility] can play a major role in shaping the character, mentality, and intellect of the future armed forces and the leaders of this country,” Prabowo said.

“I do hope that this facility can also improve the young soldiers’ competitiveness on the global stage,” Prabowo said.

According to a press release, the first floor spans 3,328 square meters. The second floor is about 2,617 square meters, while the third floor reaches 2,617 square meters. The dining room, which holds a capacity of 1,200 people, also gets renovated.
