Job Creation Law Task Force Tells Youth to Support Indonesia’s Golden Era
Jakarta. The Job Creation Law Task Force recently told Banjarmasin youth to support Indonesia’s golden era.
In a seminar held in Lambung Mangkurat University, Dimas Oky Nugroho, who oversees the strategy and socialization aspect of the task force, said that they were currently working on improving the Job Creation Law. This calls for meaningful participation from the people so the policy can be implemented well in the society.
According to Dimas, the law seeks to cut bureaucratic red tapes related to business licensing, although this calls for some regulatory adjustments in the sub-national governments. Indonesia also already has what it calls the “online single submission risk-based approach” (OSS RBA), which the government says to be a one-stop solution for business licensing.
Dimas then talked about the youth’s role in nation-building.
“Investment does not only come from overseas. But the largest investment actually comes from domestic investors. If we look at it closely, the micro businesses actually play a huge role in the nation-building process, and it is usually the youth who started these small businesses since they are still in university,” Dimas said.
The youth should also not adopt a business-as-usual approach if they wish to help drive the Indonesian economy. Dimas added “revolutionary policies” like the Job Creation Law are necessary to drive this growth.
“The Indonesian economy is growing at around 5 percent amidst today’s geopolitical situation,” Dimas said, while attributing the growth to the government’s development initiatives, including the construction of the new capital Nusantara.
He also told the attending students to embrace technology and digital products. He added: “This digital era has driven the Indonesian workforce to compete. So we need unique skills from our youths.”
According to Dimas, the Job Creation Law encourages the Indonesian workforce to be more creative, while also providing insurance for the workers. He added: “But most importantly, the Job Creation Law sides with the MSMEs [micro, small and medium enterprises] and the workers.”
The government today is helping micro and small businesses to obtain permits free of charge. They have also allocated 30 percent of the commercial area in public infrastructure for micro and small businesses. They also only need to pay 30 percent of the normal rental fee.
“We also have credit restructuring, business reconstruction, and capital assistance to help protect the micro businesses,” Dimas said.
Dimas said now would be a crucial period for Indonesia to work towards achieving a golden era by its centennial 2045 -- a dream also known as the “2045 Golden Indonesia”. And this calls for the youth to upgrade themselves.
"There is no easy way that makes us comfortable, other than moving and getting up, so that we can beat other countries. The state must make sure that all its policies can be implemented for everyone, especially for young people,” Dimas said.
