Jakarta. Indonesia opened its fourth International Sustainability Forum on Tuesday, bringing together government officials, businesses, investors, financial institutions, and international organizations to discuss how the country can sustain economic growth while accelerating its transition to a low-carbon economy.

Held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta under the theme “Investing for a Resilient, Sustainable, and Prosperous World,” the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2026 focuses on investment, technology, innovation, and cross-sector cooperation as tools to build long-term economic resilience.

Investment and Downstream Industry Minister and Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said sustainability should no longer be viewed solely as a climate issue but as a broader national strategy tied to industrial development, investment, and economic competitiveness.

“ISF has grown beyond a conference into a platform for dialogue and partnerships, where ideas become projects and ambitions become investments,” Rosan said in his opening remarks.

“For Indonesia, sustainability is not only a climate agenda but also a national, industrial, and investment agenda. Amid current global dynamics, sustainability is also inseparable from competitiveness,” he said.

Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Bakrie said the business community had identified five priorities to support climate action and sustainable growth amid global energy challenges.

The priorities include accelerating the energy transition to strengthen energy security, developing a high-integrity carbon market, supporting Indonesian companies in their efforts to reach net-zero emissions, promoting the circular economy and waste-to-energy initiatives, and advancing sustainable forest management.

The forum comes as Indonesia and other economies face the challenge of maintaining growth while cutting emissions, strengthening resilience, and improving living standards.

Rachmat Kaimuddin, chairman of the ISF 2026 organizing committee, said sustainability should remain integrated with broader economic development despite geopolitical and economic volatility.

“Through ISF 2026, we can learn from the experiences of different countries and industries on how the sustainability agenda can strengthen resilience while opening new opportunities for growth,” Rachmat said.

Kadin Deputy Chairman for Human Development, Culture, and Sustainability Shinta W. Kamdani said businesses had a key role in linking sustainability goals with economic growth and competitiveness.

“ISF 2026 provides an important space to bring businesses together with governments, investors, and global partners to discuss how sustainability can be translated into investment, innovation, and growth opportunities,” Shinta said.

She said the transition toward a more sustainable economy was not simply about meeting environmental targets but also about building industries that are more competitive and resilient to global changes.

The forum's organizers said ISF 2026 had attracted more than 7,000 registered participants from countries including Singapore, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, India, and Japan. The main forum was preceded by 27 side events held between July and October, involving stakeholders from various sectors.

Shinta said the side events demonstrated growing participation in Indonesia's sustainability agenda but stressed that the next challenge was turning ideas and discussions into concrete partnerships and projects.

The forum is expected to facilitate investment opportunities, innovation, and policy recommendations supporting sustainable development at the national, regional, and global levels.

By bringing together government, business, investors, technology companies, and development institutions, ISF 2026 seeks to position sustainability not as a standalone environmental agenda but as part of Indonesia's broader strategy to build a more competitive, resilient and inclusive economy.
