Indonesia Concerned by Influx of Chinese Mining Trucks Without Roadworthiness Tests
Jakarta. The Indonesian government recently expressed concerns about the influx of Chinese trucks into the country that reportedly did not undergo roadworthiness tests. Aan Suhanan, a senior official at the Transportation Ministry, said that the government would soon have internal discussions in response to the issue.
"We are also concerned by [these Chinese trucks]. We have invited several ministries to discuss the matter," Aan recently told reporters.
Aan said that the ministry had received many inputs regarding the use of such vehicles in mining.
"The manifest wrote the truck in question as 'capital goods' rather than 'vehicles'. Even so, we still need to conduct testing because safety is paramount," Aan told the press.
Indonesia requires vehicles to undergo a registration certification to make sure they meet the quality and safety standards. The process involves product testing to ensure a number of aspects, ranging from consumer safety, product quality to environmental protection.
