Jakarta. Hang Nadim Batam International Airport saw a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic in 2023 compared to the previous year.

According to the city's development agency BP Batam, the airport's passenger traffic reached 3.9 million. Inbound passengers reached approximately 1.9 million people in January-December 2023. BP Batam chief Muhammad Rudi said that this increasing traffic is a positive signal to the region's economic growth, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This will bring positive impact to the economic activities," Rudi was quoted as saying in a press statement on Wednesday.

Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB) reported that most of the inbound passengers arrived in July, reaching 201,973 people. The largest outbound passenger volume was recorded in April during which 189,284 people departed from the airport. Rudi said that BP Batam was focusing on expediting the infrastructure development.

"I'm committed to finishing the existing development. This is for Batam's future," he said.
