Jakarta. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) recently took home the 2025 GeoInnovation Award in the Sustainability Impact category.

The GeoInnovation Award is an annual awarding ceremony held by a geospatial tech company and ArcGIS provider Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) Indonesia. The award recognizes PTFI's use of geospatial technologies.

"Freeport is a pioneer in implementing geospatial technology to ensure employee safety. We rarely see such an approach in such an industry. So this hopefully will inspire more responsible operational practices," Ronald Adrianta, a representative of the 2025 GeoInnovation Award jury, said.

PTFI sees innovative geospatial technology as a strategic solution for operational efficiency and sustainable mining governance.

"This award demonstrates how technology can strengthen worker protection and improve operational standards in our work environment," PTFI Senior Vice President of Geoengineering & Environmental Ardhin Yuniar said.

The geospatial technology has allowed PTFI to identify high-noise risk areas more quickly and accurately, allowing the company to more effectively and efficiently protect workers. Noise monitoring zones at PTFI can now be visualized in real time through a digital dashboard, replacing the manual survey method that previously required more time and resources.

This annual award only saw nine winning organizations selected from hundreds of participants across Indonesia. The judges had picked them based on their innovation and impact on sustainable development goals.
