Jakarta. PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and its labor unions have signed a new collective labor agreement covering the 2026–2028 period, marking the latest milestone in one of Indonesia’s longest-standing industrial relations frameworks.

The agreement — PTFI’s 24th — was signed on Friday by President Director Tony Wenas and representatives of three unions: the All Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI), the All Indonesia Labor Union (SBSI), and the Papua Independent Workers Union (SPMP).

Manpower Minister Yassierli attended the signing ceremony and welcomed the agreement, expressing hope that it would serve as a strong foundation for harmonious, productive, and sustainable industrial relations.

“This collective labor agreement is an important moment for management and labor unions to strengthen collaboration and build a shared agenda, especially as future challenges become more complex,” Yassierli said.

He added that the ministry closely monitored the negotiation process, with industrial relations mediators on standby to assist if needed.

The agreement concludes an 18-day negotiation process involving 35 representatives from management, labor unions, and the government, which began on Feb. 23, 2026.

Tony said the new deal reflects nearly five decades of continuous labor agreements at PTFI.

“This is our 24th agreement, meaning we have had mutual work agreements for around 48 years — likely among the longest in Indonesia,” he said.

Key provisions include wage increases and enhancements to various benefits, such as housing allowances outside company facilities, underground mining allowances, education support, and retirement benefits. Workplace safety remains a central priority under the agreement.

Tony said the agreement represents more than a formal arrangement, describing labor unions as an integral part of the company.

“For management, unions are not just partners but part of the broader Freeport family, supporting and protecting one another,” he said.

He added that the agreement provides a strong foundation to ensure smooth operations while improving the welfare of employees, their families, and surrounding communities.

Union representative Yudha Noya said the agreement demonstrates the effectiveness of dialogue and consensus-building between workers and management.

“This is not merely a ceremonial signing. It is concrete proof that partnership and consensus have been achieved,” Yudha said, expressing hope that the deal would create a safer and more comfortable working environment for employees.
