Jakarta. Danone Indonesia recently secured a B Corp certification with a score of 98.6, according to a press release.

B Corp Certification recognizes companies that meet standards high levels of overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, provided by B Lab. This is a non-profit organization focused on encouraging for-profit companies to increase the positive impact of their business activities.

Danone Indonesia encompasses Danone-AQUA and Danone Specialized Nutrition Indonesia.

This year, Danone Indonesia succeeded in expanding its B Corp certification for the Specialized Nutrition category.

In 2018 and 2021, Danone-AQUA got B Corp certification with an increase in scores. It also became the first fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company to obtain this certification.

The company has what it calls the Danone Impact Journey (DIJ), as it vows to increase the positive impact of its business activities, especially in the fields of health, environment, and community as well as governance transparency. This resulted in gradually increasing B Corp scores.

According to CEO of Danone Indonesia Laurent Boissier, B Corp is more than just a certification.

"B Corp is a movement to create a better world, through sustainable business practices that have a positive impact both on business operations and on social and environmental impacts. Through this milestone, Danone Indonesia as a key country for Danone contributes to support the global ambition of Danone to be 100 percent B Corp-certified by 2025," Laurent was quoted as saying in a press statement.

Laurent said that the recent certification would motivate the company and its employees to continue to innovate and become an inspiration "to build a better and more sustainable business that has an impact on the community."

Thomas Ng, the director of B Lab Southeast Asia, talked of Danone Indonesia's recent achievements.

"We  see clearly that Danone Indonesia stands firm in using the power of business for good. This is proven by audit scores which increase every year and how other business categories, namely Specialized Nutrition, join companies that have been certified as B Corp," Thomas Ng said.

B Lab assesses companies based on five aspects: community, environment, customers, governance, and workers.

In the community aspect, Danone Indonesia has worked with 15,000 partners of the Innovative AQUA Home Service (AHS) Micro Distribution Model. This has supported over 10,000 small and medium enterprises. This aligns with the government's goal of creating 1 million entrepreneurs by 2024.

Danone also embraces the reuse-business model and uses renewables in its power generation. The company uses biomass boilers and solar panels in several of its factories. This is set to help Indonesia achieve net zero emission by 2060.

To provide the best for consumer health, Danone Indonesia guarantees product quality through certification standards and offers 24-7 multi-channel customer services.

Danone Indonesia is also aware how employees play a role in its business and the impact it will bring. This is why the company offers share ownership programs, a 6-month maternity leave policy, a 10-day paternity leave, labor unions, and regular surveys for the employees.

Since 2018, there are 25 B Corp-certified companies in Indonesia.
