Jakarta. The Culture Ministry has officially designated the Pelita Harapan University Museum (MUPH) as part of the Museum Nasional Indonesia, under registration number 36.71.K.06.0026.

The recognition marks a major milestone for Pelita Harapan University (UPH) and its parent institution, the Pelita Harapan Educational Foundation (YPPH), underscoring their commitment to preserving and promoting Indonesia’s cultural heritage through education.

Located at the Paddock Building in UPH Lippo Village, Karawaci, MUPH serves as a space where knowledge, creativity, and Christian values intersect. Since its establishment, the museum has curated diverse collections that reflect Indonesia’s cultural richness while showcasing global contributions in art, science, and faith-based education.

A Museum Bridging Faith, Learning, and Culture
Dr. (H.C.) James T. Riady, Founder of YPPH and UPH, described the recognition as a meaningful moment in the university’s history.

“MUPH is not merely a place to store art or artifacts. It embodies faith, intellect, and creativity. It extends our mission to bring truth, beauty, and goodness into education and society,” James said. “As the world moves rapidly into the digital and artificial age, we must stay grounded in humanity, history, and faith. This museum anchors us across generations through learning and inspiration.”

Amir Sidharta, Executive Director and Curator of MUPH, noted that the museum was designed as a space where research, education, and imagination converge.

“MUPH integrates learning with imagination, where research, education, and exhibitions complement one another,” Amir said. “This national recognition strengthens our commitment to excellence in curation, conservation, and cultural education. Beyond preserving collections, we aim to tell stories about ideas, values, and identity. Going forward, we’ll continue developing programs that engage both the public and the academic community through exhibitions, publications, and cross-disciplinary research.”

Collaboration and Innovation for Future Generations
MUPH Director Yovica Alethia said the achievement was made possible through the collaboration of the entire UPH community.

“Each work in MUPH represents faith, creativity, and dedication from our students, faculty, and partners,” she said. “We are committed to continuous innovation through interactive and digital experiences, including AI-powered technologies, to make our collections more accessible to future generations.”

With its official inclusion in Indonesia’s national museum registry, MUPH reaffirms its role as a center for art and cultural preservation and as a hub for learning and inspiration. Through collaboration and innovation, the museum aims to make Indonesia’s cultural legacy relevant and meaningful for generations to come.

The Pelita Harapan University Museum is a university-based institution dedicated to advancing education, research, and cultural engagement through curated exhibitions, academic collaboration, and community programs. Its collection spans visual art, heritage objects, manuscripts, and academic archives, all reflecting UPH’s philosophy of integrating faith, learning, and culture.
