Chandra Asri Inks Binding Salt Offtake Deal with Australia’s BCI Minerals
Jakarta. Chandra Asri recently inked a binding offtake agreement with Australian-based resources company BCI Minerals.
As part of this deal, Chandra Asri will use the salt produced at the Mardie Salt project in its chlor-alkali plant in Indonesia, which is still under construction. This agreement applies for a three-year term, but with the option to extend for three years.
The offtake agreement is for the supply of an annual contract quantity of 300,000 tons, which will increase up to 600,000 tons of salt per annum. This offtake agreement will contribute towards satisfying the offtake requirements needed as a condition precedent to drawdown on BCI’s debt facilities.
“This partnership solidifies our competitive market-leading position for our plans in progress to develop a world-scale caustic soda and ethylene dichloride plant,” Chandra Asri’s chief executive officer Erwin Ciputra said in a recent press statement.
BCI’s managing director David Boshoff said: “BCI is delighted to have entered into an offtake agreement with Chandra Asri, one of Indonesia’s leading chemical and infrastructure companies.”
Salt supply is currently anticipated for the second half of 2026 subject to approvals, satisfaction of conditions precedent for the debt project financing, construction completion, and project development and commissioning.
