Jakarta. Canisius Expo 2025 features two main events: The 25th Canisius Education Fair (Edufair) and Canisius Talent Spotting (CTS) XVII.

The Edufair is designed to help students and parents consider and determine further studies. Meanwhile, CTS aims to develop the talents and interests of elementary school students through various competitions.

This year, Caniexpo adopts the theme "Learning amid Disruption." The theme is inspired by the rapid development of AI and technological advances that have significantly disrupted or transformed the face of education today—both in terms of how teachers teach and how students access information and learn.

These developments have also reshaped opportunities in the job market and have consequences for students’ choices of further education and universities. Many jobs and skills are changing rapidly and can easily be replaced by technology and AI.

The presence of AI and technology has also transformed the way students learn. Their need for interactive and visual-based learning has become essential in curriculum design. The stronger the disruption in education, the more students are required to have both global competencies and vision, while also being rooted in their local culture as part of their identity.

Canisius College views these changes as tremendous opportunities to educate its students (Kanisians) to seize these opportunities while encouraging them to become part of the global community. The ability to communicate, collaborate, and feel a sense of belonging to the global society has become increasingly accessible through technological changes.

However, Jesuit schools are also challenged to live within the creative tension of being rooted and aware locally, while also being global. For this reason, Canisius College educates students to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate their local communities, traditions, and cultures, while at the same time becoming productive members of the global society.

Caniexpo 2025 highlights Betawi culture, which is an important part of the school’s mission. On one hand, Canisius College has the responsibility to prepare its students to face challenges and seize opportunities brought about by technological disruption to become productive members of the global community. On the other hand, it also educates children to know and love their cultural roots, and to celebrate them.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno emphasized the importance of education rooted in culture as the foundation for building Jakarta as a global city. He delivered this message during the official opening of Caniexpo 2025 at Canisius College, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, September 13.

“I am delighted to attend Caniexpo 2025. The education world in Jakarta must be called to integrate culture into education itself. Culture is the foundation and the roots that bind the nation together and nurture the spirit of nationalism,” he said.

Deputy Governor Rano also appreciated the theme Learning amid Disruption carried in this year’s Caniexpo. According to him, the theme is highly relevant to the challenges of globalization, digital technology, and artificial intelligence.

“We live amid a flood of information that is not always accurate, gadget distractions, and the fading of regional culture. Therefore, education in Jakarta must go beyond academic intelligence by equipping young generations with technological literacy, critical thinking, and at the same time, safeguarding the nation’s cultural roots,” he stressed.

In addition to Betawi cultural ornaments presented as decorations at Caniexpo 2025, Canisius College also showcased a grand theatrical performance titled Batavia Ethnica, staged by 500 students from grades 7 and 10 as an expression of love for local culture, especially Betawi.

“This performance is extraordinary, real proof that art and culture can unite us. Betawi culture should not only be preserved in museums but must also be brought to life in our daily lives,” said Deputy Governor Rano appreciatively.

Canisius Expo 2025 is held on Saturday and Sunday, September 13–14, at Canisius College, Jl. Menteng Raya 64. The event is open to the public and can be attended by students from outside Canisius, parents, alumni, and the general public. In addition to competitions for elementary school students in grades 4, 5, and 6—such as Mathematics, English, Arts, Science, 3-on-3 Basketball, Mini Soccer, Scratch, and Indonesian Storytelling—during Canisius Talent Spotting, participants can also visit the Canisius Education Fair, which presents renowned universities from Indonesia and abroad, as well as embassy representatives.

Several prestigious universities such as UGM, Airlangga, Brawijaya, IPB, NTU, HKU, Kyoto University, and the University of Toronto will be present, alongside embassy representatives from the British Council, Canada, USA, Japan, Italy, and France. Visitors will also gain insights into a variety of academic majors that they can consider for their future studies.

On Thursday, September 4, an education seminar was also held featuring speakers such as Mr. Hendra Lembong, President Director of PT Bank Central Asia, Prof. Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Sp.PD-KEMD, Ph.D., Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and Dr. Johanes Haryatmoko, SJ, lecturer at Sanata Dharma University Yogyakarta as well as Special Staff to the Steering Committee of BPIP (Agency for Pancasila Ideology Development).
