New Taipei City. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) launched BRImo Taiwan at New Taipei City Hall on Sunday, giving Indonesians in Taiwan, particularly migrant workers, access to a range of financial services through a single app, from everyday transactions to remittances to Indonesia.

The launch marks the latest step in BRI’s efforts to expand banking services for Indonesians living and working in Taiwan.

One year after strengthening its presence through the BRI Taipei Branch in Zhongshan District, the branch’s total assets have surpassed $408 million. Taiwan-Indonesia remittance transactions reached approximately $490 million as of the end of July 2026, while BRI has served more than 3,400 accounts.

Through its Taipei branch, BRI introduced BRImo Taiwan as a digital banking platform integrating a range of financial services that can be accessed around the clock.

Operating under Danantara Indonesia and supervised by Taiwan’s Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) and Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), the service is designed to provide safer, faster, and more transparent access to cross-border financial services.

BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said BRImo Taiwan was designed to make banking more accessible, convenient, fast, and secure for Indonesians in Taiwan.

“BRI’s presence in Taiwan is not simply about opening an office or providing digital services. It is about being closer to Indonesians who work, build their careers, and create their futures in Taiwan,” Hery said.

“We want BRI to serve as a bridge connecting their financial needs in Taiwan with their families and various needs back home in Indonesia,” he added.

The launch comes as Taiwan remains one of the major destinations for Indonesian migrant workers, generating significant economic activity and remittance flows.

Through easier access to digital banking, BRI aims to encourage migrant workers not only to use financial services for everyday transactions and remittances but also to improve their understanding of safe, planned, and sustainable financial management.

Bank Indonesia data show that remittances from Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan reached approximately $2.97 billion in 2025, equivalent to around Rp 47 trillion-Rp 48 trillion based on an exchange rate of about Rp 16,000 per US dollar.

The figure has more than doubled from $1.37 billion in 2021, underscoring the growing economic contribution of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan to their families and communities back home.

The BRImo Taiwan launch was also attended by the mayor of New Taipei City and a representative of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (IETO) in Taipei, along with BRI Treasury and International Banking Director Farida Thamrin, Risk Management Director Ety Yuniarti, Information Technology Director Saladin Dharma Nugraha Effendi, and Independent Commissioner Edi Susianto.

BRImo Taiwan is available through the App Store and Google Play Store, while transaction assistance is provided through BRI Taipei’s official LINE channel and customer service.
