Jakarta. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is offering occupational accident and death insurance programs to help lift the socio-economic burden on workers and their family members in case something unfortunate happens.

The workers’ social security agency says that the occupational accident insurance program protects workers right from the minute they step out of their home to go to work. It also protects them when they are on the job until they return home. Benefits include unlimited treatment according to medical needs, compensation for temporary inability to work, disability compensation, home care, a return-to-work program.  Those who suffer from occupational accidents can immediately use hospital facilities throughout Indonesia which collaborate with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan or the work accident service centers (PLKK).

In case of occupational fatality, the beneficiaries will receive death compensation about 56-fold of the worker’s wage, as well as scholarships for two children worth Rp 174 million. The scholarship will cover kindergarten until college.

On death benefits, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will grant a compensation worth Rp 42 million to the beneficiaries. Those who have signed up over 36 months are eligible for the Rp 174-million-worth scholarships --also covering kindergarten until college-- for two children.

Eligible beneficiaries are widows, widowers or children. In case if the participant does not have children, the beneficiaries shall be parents, blood-related siblings, in-laws, and anyone who is stated in their legally valid will. If there is no will, the funeral costs will go to the company or other parties that take care of the funeral. The lump sum compensation and periodic compensation are handed over to the Social Security Fund.

To claim the death benefit compensation, beneficiaries can submit an application to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan by submitting the participant card, ID card, family card, death certificate, heir certificate, as well as marriage certificate (if married).

Every Indonesian citizen who is actively working --as well as a foreign national who has worked in Indonesia for at least 6 months-- are eligible to be a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participant. To register, workers can do it online via the website, the Jamsostek Mobile (JMO) application or come to the nearest BPJS Employment branch office. Workers only need to present their identity card.
