Jakarta. BP Batam, the city’s development agency, is currently updating its land management system, particularly its database and the land allocation business processes.

Susiwijono Moegiarso, the Batam Council’s technical team head, recently said that the agency would not impose any moratoriums on land-related services during the database improvement processes. Due to the system updates, the agency is currently unable to allocate new lands. Land right extension, handover, and other permit-related services will remain available.

“We will not have a moratorium on the services. But we won’t be able to allocate new lands for now because we are in the process of improving the data quality and integrity of our land management system,” Susiwijono, who is also a secretary at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.

“If we allocate [the lands] now, there may be some differences because we are currently improving the database and that can lead to uncertainty. We want to keep a conducive investment climate by offering investors better certainty on land management,” Susiwijono said.

BP Batam chief Muhammad Rudi is currently on leave. According to Susiwijono, his absence will not affect the agency’s services.
