BGN to Cover Medical Costs After Logistics Vehicle Hits Students and Teacher in Jakarta
Jakarta. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has pledged to cover all medical expenses for victims injured when one of its logistics vehicles struck elementary school students and a teacher in North Jakarta on Thursday.
Sony Sonjaya, BGN’s Deputy for Nutrition Procurement Operations, visited the site of the incident at Kalibaru 01 Public Elementary School in Cilincing to inspect the scene and ensure a rapid response. He said all injured students and staff were being treated immediately to guarantee optimal medical care.
“I am on-site to ensure that all handling proceeds swiftly. We are coordinating with the school, the police, and healthcare facilities so that every victim receives maximum care,” Sony said. “All medical costs will be covered by BGN, and the victims have been placed in Class 1 hospital wards.”
He added that the incident has not disrupted field operations or the distribution of free nutritious meals. Program delivery to beneficiaries is continuing as scheduled. The agency has also begun a comprehensive review of procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Internally, BGN is conducting a full evaluation to ensure this does not happen again. The event has not impeded MBG operations or services,” Sony said.
BGN Head Dadan Hindayana expressed deep concern over the accident. “We are saddened by this tragic event involving students and teachers. We will fully support the police investigation to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” he said.
According to the North Jakarta Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the crash occurred as teachers were lining up students for a morning literacy activity in the school courtyard. The vehicle responsible for delivering meal packages suddenly accelerated uncontrollably, crashing through a fence and striking students and staff.
SPPG North Jakarta Chief Sahrul Gunawan Siregar said the driver involved was not a permanent agency employee but was hired through the Darul Esti Foundation.
Initial reports indicate that at least 18 people were injured, including one teacher.
Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, BGN’s Deputy for Public Communications, said victim care remains the agency’s top priority. “We are devastated by this incident. Our priority is ensuring that all victims receive the best possible treatment and that families receive full support,” she said. “BGN will enforce stricter oversight standards, including driver verification, fleet provider checks, and stronger discipline in implementing operating procedures.”
