Bogor. National Nutrition Agency (BGN) said on Tuesday that it is reinforcing its commitment to local food supply chains through the SPPG Bogor Tamansari Sukamantri, which consistently sources ingredients from small businesses, farmers, breeders, and local producers. The approach ensures fresher, safer food while directly supporting economic growth in surrounding communities.

Local sourcing has become a core pillar of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program, with each SPPG’s high daily production giving it the potential to drive regional economies through routine transactions with local suppliers.

Khairul Hidayati, Head of Legal and Public Relations at the agency, said the Sukamantri unit shows how a national nutrition initiative can generate broad benefits beyond children’s health.

“SPPG Sukamantri demonstrates how a nutrition program can deliver direct economic impact for farmers and small businesses. Buying from local producers boosts economic activity in the village and lifts community welfare,” Hidayati said in Bogor on Tuesday.

The Sukamantri unit regularly purchases vegetables, eggs, chicken, fish, and home-processed food from suppliers in nearby villages and districts. The system shortens distribution routes, reduces spoilage risk, maintains quality, and lowers logistics costs.

Hidayati added that the strategy is a key foundation in building a resilient, community-empowering food ecosystem.

“This is the model we are pushing across all SPPGs in Indonesia. Prioritizing local ingredients not only safeguards meal quality but also strengthens regional economic independence,” she said.
