Sleman. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) says its Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) is increasingly supporting local economies, following a review of the Margomulyo Seyegan Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Sleman, Yogyakarta, which has been sourcing food supplies directly from nearby farmers and breeders at premium prices.

During a visit on Friday, BGN Head of Legal and Public Relations Khairul Hidayati said SPPG Margomulyo has become a model for integrating nutrition fulfillment with rural economic development.

Hidayati said that SPPG Margomulyo regularly purchases vegetables and other agricultural products from local farmers, ensuring both quality and fair prices. “This partnership empowers local farmers and breeders. Their produce is bought at good prices, bringing real benefits to the surrounding community,” she said.

Part of the program’s animal protein supplies, including eggs, is sourced from Seyegan Margo Manunggal, a joint village-owned enterprise (BUMKALMA). Hidayati said this system strengthens village-level food security while building a sustainable supply chain that supports local livelihoods.

She encouraged other regions to replicate the Margomulyo model to ensure SPPG units not only provide nutritious meals but also help boost household incomes and reduce dependence on large external suppliers.

BGN said it remains committed to promoting local-sourcing partnerships as part of a broader strategy to build sustainable and resilient food systems across Indonesia.
