Amazon Sets Guinness World Record for Generative AI Apps With Schools in West Java
Jakarta. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a group of students and teachers from 21 high schools across West Java have set a new Guinness World Record for the “Most Applications Made in an On-site Generative AI (Gen AI) Event”, creating 10,821 unique AI-powered applications.
The record-setting initiative, organized in collaboration with Prestasi Junior Indonesia, Alkademi Foundation, and Yayasan Sagasitas Indonesia, brought together more than 2,600 participants who demonstrated how accessible generative AI tools can fuel creativity and innovation in classrooms. The milestone capped a year-long learning program focused on exploring AI’s creative potential and responsible use.
Students showcased their skills by developing Gen AI applications ranging from project management assistants to personal carbon footprint companions. During the event, they arrived with pre-conceptualized app ideas -- including prompts and widget structures -- while teachers and non-profit staff helped bring these concepts to life using PartyRock, an Amazon Bedrock playground. Participants joined the activity from their respective schools and from the Amazon Think Big Space at SMK Negeri 1 Karawang on October 13.
The attempt followed Guinness World Records’ stringent verification process, which required that each submission be both functional and distinct. The results were officially certified by a Guinness adjudicator.
“This achievement is a tangible contribution to the advancement of Indonesia’s technology sector in the future and we congratulate everyone on this achievement,” said Aynee Toorabally, the adjudicator.
AWS said it has trained over one million Indonesians in cloud skills since 2017 and is now expanding its focus to include AI education. By providing accessible AI platforms, the company aims to empower both students and educators to create applications with minimal coding knowledge.
"Today our students in West Java have done something amazing. They have made history by breaking a Guinness World Record. By building thousands of AI projects in just one day, these young creators have shown that Indonesia is not just ready for the digital future. We are helping to build it,” said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, in a statement.
Beyond the record itself, the initiative highlights how early exposure to generative AI can inspire future tech careers and support Indonesia’s broader digital transformation agenda.
“AWS is committed to ensuring as many Indonesians as possible have access to Gen AI education and skilling so that we can solve some of the country’s biggest challenges and opportunities together as well as prepare local builders for the global digital economy,” said Jaime Vallés, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific & Japan, AWS.
