Jakarta. Ride-hailing users in Jakarta may find it harder to secure a driver during Ramadan as demand spikes earlier in the day while some drivers temporarily leave the capital for the Eid al Fitr homecoming period, according to Gojek.

Bambang Adi Wirawan, Head of Driver Operations at Gojek, said the city’s peak hours during Ramadan begin earlier than usual. Activity typically starts intensifying at around 3:30 p.m. and reaches its busiest point between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time.

“At the end of Ramadan, we understand that some Gojek driver-partners, particularly those operating in major cities, have returned to their hometowns or chosen to spend time with their families,” Bambang said in Jakarta on Friday.

Internal Gojek data from 2025 show that driver-partners generally resume operations gradually in the first to second week after Eid holiday break, as public activity returns to normal following the holiday period.

External factors have also contributed to longer waiting times. Bambang mentioned that rainfall in parts of Jakarta has caused flooding in several areas and triggered heavier traffic congestion, which in turn affects driver availability.

“As a result, customer orders during this period may require additional time before being accepted by driver-partners,” he said.

To mitigate disruptions, Gojek urged users to allow extra time when placing orders or planning trips during the holiday season.

From the driver side, the company will implement a special fare scheme during the Eid holiday period to help increase drivers’ earning opportunities.

“There will also be incentives or additional income bonuses for driver-partners who complete a certain number of orders. This step is important for us to appreciate drivers who continue serving the public during the Eid holiday period,” Bambang said.

“Gojek remains committed to ensuring convenience and comfort for users while creating an ecosystem that allows driver-partners to earn sustainable income,” he added.
