Weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah Wins Indonesia's 2nd Gold Medal at Paris Olympics
Jakarta. Rizki Juniansyah captured the gold medal and set a new Olympic record in the clean and jerk during the men’s 73kg weightlifting event at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles late on Thursday.
This triumph came just hours after sport climber Veddriq Leonardo secured Indonesia's first gold medal of the Paris Olympics.
Rizki lifted a total of 354 kilograms -- 155 kilograms in the snatch and 199 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
Thailand’s Weeraphon Wichuma earned the silver medal with a total lift of 346 kilograms, while Bulgarian athlete Bozhidar Andreev claimed the bronze after lifting 344 kilograms.
Defending champion Shi Zhi Yong of China, who managed 165 kilograms in the snatch, failed three attempts at lifting 191 kilograms in the clean and jerk, leaving him without a medal.
Indonesia now boasts two gold medals and one bronze at the Paris Olympics.
