Undefeated Indonesia Crowned Champions at SEABA U-17 Women’s 3x3 in Singapore
Jakarta. Indonesia’s U-17 women’s basketball team made history by winning the inaugural SEABA U-17 3x3 Cup in Singapore, sweeping the tournament undefeated and edging out Thailand 17-15 in the final on Sunday.
“This is an extraordinary achievement and a milestone for our 3x3 basketball,” said Nirmala Dewi, secretary-general of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi), on Monday. “Our players became champions in the very first edition of this event.”
Perbasi credited the success to strong collaboration with club owners and stakeholders who helped develop the players into a solid, competitive team for the regional tournament.
Perfect Run to the Title
Indonesia dominated the group stage with five straight wins. The campaign began on September 27 with a 21-10 victory over Vietnam, followed by a 21-12 win against host Singapore. They then cruised past Laos 21-4 and defeated Malaysia 21-13.
The following day, Indonesia secured another crucial win by beating Thailand 18-13, finishing the group stage unbeaten and clinching the top seed for the semifinals.
In the semifinal, the Indonesian team edged out Singapore 18-17 in a nail-biting contest before prevailing over Thailand in the championship game.
The triumph was capped by Indonesian player Ni Kadek Winda Sandia Kanita being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In contrast, Indonesia’s U-17 men’s team finished fourth despite a strong start. They went unbeaten in the group stage with six victories but fell to Thailand 18-19 in a close semifinal. In the third-place playoff, they lost to Malaysia 17-21, ending their campaign on a disappointing note.
