Jakarta. Jazilul Fawaid, Deputy Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), suggested that the party is considering joining the Indonesia Forward Coalition (KIM) for the Jakarta gubernatorial race, which could affect its support for Anies Baswedan.

“Everything is possible, including PKB not endorsing Anies in the Jakarta election,” Gus Jazil said at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

He confirmed that PKB is weighing an offer to join KIM. Gus Jazil noted that communication with KIM has been positive, including discussions about forming an alliance for the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“We are considering it for the good of Jakarta and Indonesia,” Gus Jazil emphasized.

While the Jakarta branch of PKB has publicly supported Anies Baswedan for the 2024 gubernatorial race, the party’s central leadership has yet to make a formal decision.

Previously, Gerindra Party’s Daily Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad mentioned that several parties with divergent presidential election support might join KIM for regional elections. KIM Plus is expected to form alliances in Jakarta, West Java, and Central Java.

Dasco stated that the candidate endorsed by KIM Plus will be decided collectively by all coalition parties.

Jazilul speculated that the Jakarta gubernatorial race might feature only one major candidate if the KIM Plus coalition forms.

KIM currently consists of Gerindra, Golkar, Democrat Party, PAN, PBB, Gelora Party, Garuda Party, Prima, and PSI

Currently, Anies Baswedan has official backing from the Nasdem Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) for the Jakarta gubernatorial race. With 29 seats in the Jakarta DPRD from PKS and Nasdem combined, PKB’s official stance is anticipated soon.
