Ukraine Seeks Indonesian Electrical Grid Components
Jakarta. A visiting Ukrainian parliament member Vadym Halaichuk on Thursday revealed his country’s interest to cooperate with Indonesia on electrical grid system components.
“We understand the issue here [in Indonesia], so we have not asked for any military assistance. We have asked for humanitarian assistance, and very specific things such as components for the energy grid that are used in Ukraine,” Halaichuk told Indonesian reporters in Jakarta.
“[Those components] were used during the Soviet times, but they are not produced in the European Union. They have different standards. But we have had pretty good feedback on the possibility of supplying the components of the electrical grid,” he said.
By "components", he was specifically referring to transformers.
“The issue at hand is we have the same system and components for the large 750-kilovolt transformer, which are not produced in Europe,” Halaichuk said.
“We are discussing the opportunities to find the [transformers] here, either to buy or negotiate the possibility of having them provided as part of humanitarian assistance,” Halaichuk added.
According to Halaichuk, Ukrainian representatives have spoken with the Indonesian parliament members and businesses on the said components. Halaichuk, however, refused to disclose the names of the Indonesian businesses, as negotiations have only just begun.
“We have sent information to Ukrainian authorities so we proceed with contacting the businesses here who are in production [of the transformers],” Halaichuk said.
Ukraine has sent a team of its government representatives for a visit to Jakarta. Aside from Halaichuk, the team had the Ukrainian president's permanent representative in Crimea Tamila Tasheva. During the visit, the Ukrainian representatives met with Indonesian parliament members, Muslim organizations, as well as the Ombudsman, and universities, among others.
Transformers are a key component in energy infrastructure that transfers electricity from one circuit to another by increasing or lowering the voltage. This device is pivotal to supply electricity to consumers.
