Tragic Eid Homecoming: 12 Body Bags Transported to Karawang Regional Hospital
Karawang. Twelve body bags were transported to the Karawang Regional Hospital in West Java following an accident at Km 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road in Karawang on Monday. Previously, it was reported that nine individuals lost their lives.
Among the casualties, the conductor of the Primajasa bus sustained severe injuries, while one passenger from the Daihatsu Terios minivan suffered minor injuries. The accident resulted in severe congestion along an 8-kilometer stretch and beyond.
The collision involved three vehicles: two Grand Max and Terios minivans, and one Primajasa bus traveling from Bandung.
Currently, the bus driver has been detained by the police for further investigation. Two minivans caught fire as a consequence of the accident.
The incident occurred in the contraflow lane during the Eid homecoming traffic. Beritasatu TV reports that authorities are currently conducting victim evacuation and traffic management operations, resulting in significant congestion.
The accident ensued when a Primajasa bus from Bandung failed to avoid colliding with a Grandmax vehicle, leading to the ignition of the latter at the scene.
State toll road operator Jasa Marga predicts that approximately 1.86 million vehicles will depart from Jakarta during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, which falls between April 3rd and April 11th.
