Jakarta. The Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that 385 Indonesian evacuees fleeing from war-torn Sudan had arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on Friday morning.

The GA-991 Garuda Indonesia plane landed at 5.46 a.m Jakarta time.

“Considering how long and tiring the trip that the evacuees had to go through, they will stay in Pondok Gede hajj dormitory for a while before coming back home,” senior diplomat Retno Marsudi said.

The government has readied health check-ups and counseling for the civilians who had just fled the conflict-ridden country. Retno added, “The Social Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, and the sub-national governments will facilitate the evacuees’ return to their hometowns.”

This marks the first arrival of Indonesian citizens from Sudan via Jeddah. The next round of repatriation will take place tomorrow. The second batch of evacuees will arrive in Indonesia on Sunday, according to Retno.

The third and final repatriation round is slated for Sunday. The Indonesian Air Force will deploy its airplane to take the evacuees back to Indonesia.

“As of now, 111 Indonesians are still in Port Sudan. They will fly to Jeddah on an Indonesian Air Force plane today,” Retno said.
