Jakarta. South Jakarta’s immigration office has deported 172 foreign nationals so far this year, with the majority of offenders coming from China and linked to rising cases of online fraud, officials said on Wednesday.

Bugie Kurniawan, head of the South Jakarta Class I Special Immigration Office, said China remained the largest source of immigration violators in the city. “The highest number of those deported this year is still from China,” Bugie told reporters in Setiabudi, South Jakarta.

Authorities say most offenses involved online scams, including a case in July when South Jakarta Police arrested a group of Chinese nationals operating a fraud ring. “Scammers contribute the most to the deportation numbers. We also found cases involving the misuse of residence permits. These are the most common immigration violations in South Jakarta,” Bugie said.

Alongside enforcement, the office reported strong performance in non-tax state revenue. In the 2025 fiscal year, South Jakarta Immigration collected Rp 224.7 billion ($13.5 million), achieving 169.81 percent of its annual target of Rp 132.3 billion. The surge, Bugie said, reflects the effectiveness of digitalized immigration services and growing public trust.

Joint operations across several hotspots also led to action against 35 foreign nationals committing various violations, including working or engaging in activities not covered by their residence permits, causing public disturbances, overstaying, and other administrative breaches.

“All enforcement results are communicated transparently through press briefings,” Bugie concluded.
