Karawang, W. Java. A small aircraft crash-landed in a rice field in Karawang, West Java, on Friday with no casualties reported, as rescue teams began securing the site while awaiting national investigators to start the evacuation process.

“For the evacuation process, we are waiting for the authorities. The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) will carry out an investigation before any further action can be taken,” said Sigit, head of the Karawang Search and Rescue standby unit.

According to preliminary information, the plane reportedly experienced an engine problem before going down. However, the exact cause of the incident will only be determined following KNKT’s official investigation.

“We received information that the aircraft was flying from Curug Flight School to Cakrabuana Airport in Cirebon. At roughly 2 p.m. local time, we received a report that it crashed in Tirtamulya. The plane is suspected to have had engine trouble, but confirmation will come after KNKT’s investigation,” Sigit said.

He added that the aircraft continued to emit an automatic emergency signal triggered during aviation incidents.

“That signal comes from the aircraft’s emergency system. If a plane encounters a problem, the device emits a signal detectable by our central system. It will continue until the device is switched off,” he explained.

SAR teams remain on standby near the crash site while awaiting further coordination, ensuring the area remains secure.

“Detailed information about casualties or the aircraft’s condition will be delivered after KNKT completes its preliminary assessment,” Sigit said.

The incident involved a small aircraft with tail number PK-WMP, operated by BRO Skydive Indonesia, which carried out an emergency landing in the rice fields of Kertawaluya village, Tirtamulya district, on Friday afternoon. All six people on board, five passengers and the pilot, survived.

Local resident Hasan said the plane circled overhead several times before descending. “It was flying around as if it was looking for a place to land. Then it went down into the field,” he said.

The aircraft appeared mostly intact, showing no severe structural damage.

The plane came to rest in a relatively stable position, with its nose embedded in the soft mud while the tail remained slightly elevated. Authorities are now focused on securing the area while waiting for KNKT investigators to begin their on-site probe.
