Senior Military Officers Arrive at Palace Amid Cabinet Reshuffle Speculation
Jakarta. Two senior Indonesian military officers arrived at the Presidential Palace on Thursday amid growing speculation that President Prabowo Subianto is preparing another cabinet reshuffle, potentially involving changes to the energy and defense ministries.
Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Richard Tampubolon arrived at the palace at around 1 p.m., followed by Maj. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi, commander of the TNI's XXI/Radin Inten Regional Military Command.
Both officers said they had been contacted by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and asked to attend an event at the palace, but neither disclosed the purpose of the invitation.
Their arrival came as reports circulated among journalists about possible changes to several positions in Prabowo's Red and White Cabinet.
Richard was questioned by reporters about speculation that he could be appointed deputy defense minister.
"Pray for the best. I'm ready to do my best," he replied, without confirming whether he had been offered the position.
Kristomei, meanwhile, declined to comment on speculation that he could be appointed head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
"I don't know yet what my assignment will be," he told reporters.
Neither officer confirmed that a cabinet reshuffle or appointment ceremony was scheduled.
