Jakarta. Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil (RK) announced plans to convert government land vacated due to the capital's move to Nusantara into public housing, following President-elect Prabowo Subianto's directive. This initiative aims to address Jakarta's housing challenges while prioritizing vertical development in the city.

During a visit to Prabowo's young voters campaign team, TKN Fanta, in Menteng, Ridwan Kamil, commonly known as Kang Emil, highlighted Prabowo's commitment to the welfare of Jakarta's residents.

Kang Emil also addressed the issues faced by young people in Jakarta, particularly the challenges of home ownership and the long commute between home and work, which he noted contributes to stress.

He pointed out that these long commutes not only cause stress but also consume 30 percent of Jakarta residents' income on transportation, contributing to pollution and making Jakarta one of the world's most polluted cities.

"One of Prabowo's directives is to focus on creating housing in the city center. But since land is scarce, we should consider building residential in Manggarai, Dukuh Atas, Tanah Abang, Juanda, and others," Kang Emil added.

In addition to housing, Kang Emil pledged to triple the number of trees in Jakarta if elected, aiming to bring more greenery to under-shaded areas like North and West Jakarta.

He stressed the importance of planting trees that can effectively absorb air pollution to improve the city's overall environment.

"The trees will be carefully chosen for their ability to absorb pollution," RK concluded.
