Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi urged lawmakers on Thursday to maintain their support for the Palestinian cause as she bid farewell during her last hearing with the House of Representatives, just a month before the current cabinet concludes its term.

Retno, who has served as Indonesia's top diplomat since President Joko Widodo took office in 2014, underlined the importance of standing by Palestine, especially amid the ongoing military campaign by Israel.

Addressing members of the House’s Commission I, which oversees foreign affairs, Retno stressed that Indonesia’s long-standing advocacy for the establishment of a Palestinian state must continue even after the presidential power transitions on October 20.

"Ladies and gentlemen, one of the key issues I entrust to you in Commission I is the Palestinian cause. We must never abandon the Palestinian people in their fight for their rights against oppression," Retno said during the hearing at the House of Representatives in Jakarta.

She highlighted that Indonesia’s reputation in global diplomacy has been strengthened by its consistent stance on justice and humanity, particularly regarding Palestine.

Retno also said she will convey the same message to her successor in the next administration, led by Prabowo Subianto.

"Whoever succeeds me, we will sit together to discuss the unfinished matters that require immediate attention," she concluded.
