Puan Maharani’s Father-in-Law Passes Away
Cirebon. Bambang Sukmono Hadi, the father-in-law of House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, died at a Jakarta hospital on Friday night at the age of 79.
His funeral took place at Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery in South Jakarta on Saturday morning.
Bambang was a businessman who owned a number of property and shipping companies and spent most of his time in Yogyakarta, although he recently resided in the national capital.
He largely kept himself from politics despite becoming an in-law to former President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
His son Hapsoro Sukmono Hadi, better known as Happy, is also a leading businessman who is married to Puan, a politician from her mother’s Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
"As a governor and party member, I extend my condolences,” PDI-P presidential nominee Ganjar Pranowo said during a visit to Cirebon, West Java.
"I knew Mr. Bambang closely since the gubernatorial election during which he expressed his strong support from Yogyakarta. He was also my senior at UGM [Gadjah Mada University] and I remember him as a very kind person,” the Central Java governor said.
The Twitter account of the Golkar Party also published condolences over the passing of Bambang and posted several photos from the funeral ceremony.
