Jakarta. The Political Strategy Group (PSG) has released a survey showing that Jakarta residents still favor former Jakarta governors Anies Baswedan and Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama in the upcoming 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election, despite neither of them competing in the race.

The survey results were presented by PSG Chief Research Officer Ahsan Ridhoi at the Ashley Wahid Hasyim Hotel in Jakarta on Saturday.

One of the survey’s key questions asked respondents who they would choose as governor if the election were held today. The results showed that Anies Baswedan led with 38 percent of the vote, followed by Ahok with 22 percent, and former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil with 15 percent. Meanwhile, 18 percent of respondents either did not know or declined to answer.

The survey also highlighted other potential candidates, though their support was below 5 percent, including Nasdem politician Ahmad Sahroni, PSI chairman and President Joko Widodo's son, Kaesang Pangarep, businessman Jusuf Hamka, and Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

However, both Ahok and Anies are ineligible to run in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election, as the registration period has closed. Initially, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) considered nominating Anies, but ultimately chose Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, who will run alongside Rano Karno. According to PDI-P spokesman Chico Hakim, Anies did not align with the party's ideological stance, and PDI-P prioritizes its own members for key electoral districts.

Pramono will face Ridwan Kamil, backed by a coalition of 12 parties and considered a strong contender, as well as independent candidate Dharma Pongrekun.

The PSG survey was conducted from August 6-15, targeting eligible voters in Jakarta—those aged 17 or older or married at the time of the survey.

Using a multistage random sampling method, the sample size consisted of 1,540 respondents. With a margin of error of ±2.7 percent and a 95 percent confidence level, the sample was drawn proportionally from all municipalities within the Jakarta Special Region.
