President Jokowi Unfazed by Impeachment Talk
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo remains undisturbed despite the impeachment call initiated by a group calling themselves Petisi 100.
Presidential Staff Office Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said that President Jokowi is currently focused on completing his duties during the remaining period of his term, which ends in October.
"He (Jokowi) is not overly disturbed by this discourse. He continues to work as usual. Many things need to be addressed," said Ari at the State Secretariat office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Moreover, Ari said that the impeachment call contradicts the public's evaluation of President Jokowi. The recent national survey conducted by the Indonesian Circle Survey (LSI) towards the end of December 2023 and early January 2024 has revealed that 78 percent of respondents express satisfaction with the performance of President
"We also see during regional visits, the enthusiasm of the people in welcoming and engaging in dialogues with the president is very high. It shows that the president continues to work for the benefit of the people," he added.
Last week, 22 figures representing Petisi 100 met with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mohammad Mahfud MD. Petisi 100 is requesting the impeachment of Jokowi and envisions the 2024 elections without President Jokowi.
Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Jimly Asshiddiqie that the likelihood of impeaching President Jokowi appears slim. "In one month (before the Feb. 14 voting day), it's impossible to secure the official stance of two-thirds of the DPR (House of Representatives) members and garner the support of two-thirds of the MPR members (People's Consultative Assembly) after going through the Constitutional Court," Jimly tweeted on Sunday.
