New York. President Prabowo Subianto announced before the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that Indonesia is prepared to contribute both personnel and funding to strengthen global peacekeeping operations.

Speaking at UN headquarters shortly after US President Donald Trump, Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s longstanding commitment to the UN, multilateralism, and the principle of collective security.

“We remain committed to internationalism, multilateralism, and every effort that strengthens this great institution,” Prabowo said in his address, which was broadcast live by Beritasatu TV.

“Indonesia today is one of the largest contributors to United Nations peacekeeping forces. We will continue to serve where peace needs guardians -- not just with words but with boots on the ground,” he added.

Prabowo declared that Indonesia stands ready to deploy 20,000 or more troops if requested by the UN Security Council and General Assembly. The troops, he said, could be deployed to hotspots including Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and Libya, or “anywhere peace needs to be enforced and guarded.” He also pledged financial contributions to support UN missions in conflict zones.

Beyond peacekeeping, the president used the global stage to emphasize Indonesia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, asserting their right to statehood amid ongoing Israeli military actions. “We must never be silenced while Palestinians are denied justice and existence,” he said.

Prabowo urged UN members to reject what he called the doctrine of “the strong do what they can, the weak suffer what they must,” stressing that the international community has a duty to ensure justice and peace for vulnerable nations.

The speech marked Prabowo’s first address to the UN General Assembly as Indonesia’s president and underscored Jakarta’s ambition to play a larger role in shaping global peace and security.

Indonesia is currently among the top 10 troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, with more than 2,700 military and police personnel deployed across missions in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The country has participated in UN peacekeeping since 1957, when it sent troops to the UN Emergency Force in Sinai.

Jakarta has consistently framed peacekeeping as part of its “free and active” foreign policy, seeking to balance relations with major powers while maintaining credibility in the Global South.
