Police Officer Confirmed to Have Committed Suicide in South Jakarta
Jakarta. A member of the Manado City Police in North Sulawesi, Brigadier Ridhal Ali (RA), was confirmed to have committed suicide inside a car in the driveway of his house on Jalan Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta.
The South Jakarta Metropolitan Police officially closed the investigation into the case.
"After presenting all the evidence available, with collaboration from forensic medicine, the cyber team, and the National Police Laboratory (Puslabfor), we concluded that this incident was officially a suicide, so we consider this case closed or resolved," said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Bintoro, in Jakarta on Monday.
On Monday, the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police revealed several pieces of evidence and presented relevant parties such as forensic doctors, cyber teams, and the National Police Laboratory (Puslabfor) to explain the findings.
According to Puslabfor, no DNA was found at the suicide location other than the victim's DNA.
Meanwhile, the cyber team presented several CCTV recordings showing RA's activities before and after the suicide. It was evident from the footage that no one was inside the car or in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
According to the forensic doctor's statement, the victim suffered a close-range gunshot wound to the head and no bullet residue was found, nor were any other wounds found.
"The conclusion is based on statements from witnesses and supported by evidence and the results of comprehensive examinations. This is purely a case of suicide by shooting with a firearm directed towards the head," he explained.
Meanwhile, one of the victim's family members, identified only by the initial "W", stated that the family refused an autopsy as they had negotiated with the victim's wife and parents.
"We have accepted what happened," explained W, whose full name was not disclosed.
