Police Investigate Alleged Suicide of Manado Policeman in Jakarta
Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police discovered a member of the Manado City Police, North Sulawesi, dead from a gunshot wound to the head in his car on Thursday, with initial suspicion of suicide.
The victim, identified as Brigadier Ridhal Ali Tomi, was a member of the Indonesian National Police stationed at the Manado City Police.
"I can't believe it," said the victim's wife, Oshin Novita, on Friday.
According to Oshin, her husband had been working as a security guard for a businessman in Jakarta since 2022. Oshin found it highly unlikely that her husband would commit suicide because he was known to be cheerful and lively.
"We did have arguments, but that's normal in a marriage. I know my husband would never resort to suicide," she explained.
Before the incident, she and her husband had communicated via video call, and their conversation was perfectly normal. "I don't know if he had any problems with anyone else, but my husband was someone who loved joking around with others," she added.
She hopes that the case will be resolved swiftly as the family demands justice. "I want to know as soon as possible what happened to my husband," Oshin emphasized.
According to Bintoro, the head of the criminal investigation unit, Ridhal suffered a gunshot wound to the right temple that exited on the left, penetrating the car's roof. The police found several pieces of evidence inside the car, including a HS-type firearm.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon and was reported at 6:25 p.m. local time. After receiving the report, the police team immediately went to the scene to conduct a crime scene investigation, involving the forensic team.
During the process, the police questioned 13 witnesses and gathered footage from surveillance cameras to determine the chronology of events.
Based on witness testimony, evidence, and digital forensic analysis, the police concluded that the preliminary suspicion was that the victim committed suicide. Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the truth of the incident.
