Police Arrest Four in Kidnapping and Murder of State Bank Branch Head
Jakarta. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Mohamad Ilham Pradipta, 37, a branch head of a state-owned bank whose body was discovered in Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police said late Thursday that three suspects, identified by the initials AT, RS, and RAH, were arrested in Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, while another suspect, RW, was detained upon arrival at an airport in East Nusa Tenggara and flown to Jakarta for questioning.
“Those four suspects we secured were tasked only with carrying out the abduction, not the murder,” senior investigator AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy told reporters. Investigation is expanded to hunt the suspected mastermind and determine the motive behind the murder, he said.
Kidnapping Caught on CCTV
The abduction was captured on surveillance footage in the parking lot of Lotte Mart in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 20. The victim, dressed in a batik shirt, was seen walking toward his car in light rain when several men exited a white vehicle, blocked him, and forced him into their car parked beside his.
A cattle herder discovered Ilham’s body at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday in Nagasari village, Bekasi. His eyes, hands, and feet were tightly bound with duct tape.
Police said the four arrested suspects are civilians, but investigators suspect others may have orchestrated the crime, including ordering the killing after the abduction.
Ilham’s family urged police to uncover the masterminds and the motive behind the killing. His wife, identified as PU, appealed for swift action.
“We want to know who planned this and why. My husband was a good man and did not deserve to be treated this way,” she said.
