Over 140,000 Personnel Assigned to Monitor 193.6 Million Eid Travelers
Jakarta. The National Police will deploy 76,192 personnel to monitor the movement of millions of people who will be traveling for Eid al-Fitr homecoming in 2024. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, said 68,969 personnel from other agencies will also join in this effort.
"The potential movement of people traveling for Eid homecoming in 2024 is approximately 193.6 million individuals. The total number of personnel involved is 145,161 individuals," said Trunoyudo to reporters at the Polri Public Relations Division building on Wednesday.
The Traffic Police Directorate of the Indonesian National Police will conduct a traffic operation, called Operation Ketupat 2024, to ensure the smooth flow of homecoming and return traffic during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Operation Ketupat will be carried out for 13 days, starting from April 4 to April 16.
Additionally, the police will provide security at several locations, including mosques at 68,611 locations, terminals at 1,054 locations, ports at 792 locations, airports at 317 locations, train stations at 414 locations, markets or shopping centers at 4,398 locations, and tourist attractions at 5,165 locations.
A survey conducted by the Transportation Ministry reveals that an estimated 193.6 million people, equivalent to approximately 71.7 percent of Indonesia's population, are anticipated to embark on the Eid exodus this year. This represents a significant increase of 56.4 percent compared to the movement observed during the 2023 Eid, estimated at 123.8 million people.
The estimated peak day for homecoming, based on public preferences, is Monday, April 8, with a potential movement of 26.6 million people. The estimated peak return day is Sunday, April 14, with a potential movement of 41 million people.
