Jakarta. President-Elect Prabowo Subianto expressed his sympathies on Tuesday to American presidential hopeful Donald Trump who recently got injured in an assassination attempt.

Prabowo also wished Trump a speedy recovery.

“I am deeply concerned to hear about the assassination attempt during former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign rally in Pennsylvania,” Prabowo wrote on the social media platform X.

“Acts of violence have no place in the democratic political process and should be condemned. I extend our best wishes to former President Trump for a swift recovery, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” he added.

Prabowo said he hoped the election campaign could continue in a  “peaceful and safe environment”.

The attacker tried to shoot Trump during a campaign rally over the weekend, with the bullet piercing the presidential candidate’s right ear. The FBI has named the 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspect. The American secret service agents had fatally shot Crooks at the scene. Besides wounding Trump, the attempted assassination killed a male firefighter and critically injured two spectators.

Indonesia earlier this year held its presidential election with Prabowo picked to succeed the two-term President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Jokowi had already sent a similar message that raised concerns over the Trump rally shooting.

“All forms of violence have no place in democracy around the world,” Jokowi posted on his social media on Sunday.

Trump made his first public appearance since the shooting when he went to the Republican National Convention on Monday local time. Trump also appeared with a bandaged ear.
