New Renewable Energy Law Still Unfinished as House Extends Deliberations Again
Jakarta. Deliberations on the Draft Law on New and Renewable Energy have been extended again, indicating that the proposed regulatory framework for developing the sector in Indonesia remains under discussion.
The extension was approved during the sixth plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the First Session of the 2026-2027 Legislative Year at the Nusantara II Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday.
DPR Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, who presided over the session, said the proposal to extend deliberations on the New and Renewable Energy Bill, known as the EBET Bill, had previously been discussed at a consultative meeting held in lieu of a Consultative Body meeting on Sept. 21.
The decision allows the House committee responsible for energy affairs and the government to continue deliberating on the bill.
The extension comes as Indonesia seeks to strengthen energy security while pursuing its energy transition. The proposed law is intended to establish a legal framework for the development of new and renewable energy.
Regulatory certainty is also important for the development of the sector, as the government and the DPR continue to discuss the scope and provisions of the bill.
The government and the DPR have previously promoted new and renewable energy development as part of efforts to strengthen energy security and support Indonesia’s energy transition.
Further deliberations are expected to determine provisions governing the development of the sector and provide greater regulatory certainty for investors and other stakeholders.
For now, however, the bill remains under discussion after the House approved another extension of its deliberation period.
