Jakarta. It has been four days since Arya Daru Pangayunan, an official at the Foreign Ministry, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his rented room in Menteng, Central Jakarta, yet police have not released details surrounding the case.

Arya, who worked at the Directorate of the Indonesian Citizen Protection, was found dead on Tuesday morning with his face wrapped in duct tape, his body covered with a blanket. The room was locked from the inside, and there were no visible signs of violence, fueling public speculation about the true cause of his death.

On Friday morning, a joint police team returned to the scene on Jalan Gondangdia Kecil to conduct a follow-up crime scene investigation. The case, initially handled by the Central Jakarta Police, has been taken over by the Jakarta Metro Police due to its complexity and sensitivity.

Officers examined multiple areas inside the room, including window vents and other corners, and expanded the police line to the boarding house’s front gate to restrict public access, a departure from previous inspections.

Despite the growing public interest, police said they need more time to analyze critical evidence before announcing any conclusions.Jakarta Metro Police Chief Karyoto explained that investigators are working intensively to collect and review key evidence, including autopsy results, forensic data, and digital communications.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday night, Karyoto said a digital forensic team has been deployed to examine Arya’s phone and laptop, which are expected to reveal his activities and communications prior to his death. Investigators have also reviewed two CCTV recordings from around the boarding house and questioned five witnesses, including Arya’s wife, to piece together a clearer timeline of events.

“This investigation requires a scientific and professional approach to ensure that the facts we announce later are accurate,” Karyoto said, adding that the findings are expected to be released within a week.

The case has attracted widespread public attention, with lawmakers urging a thorough investigation. TB Hasanuddin, a member of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, dismissed speculation that Arya had died by suicide.

“He was a young diplomat with an impressive record, and he once served as a witness in a human trafficking court case,” Hasanuddin said on Friday.

Amid speculation circulating on social media, Karyoto urged the public not to jump to conclusions.

“We urge the public not to speculate. Please wait for the official results from the investigation and avoid spreading hoaxes that could disrupt the situation,” he said.
