Jakarta. Muhaimin Iskandar, the chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), said Tuesday that his party remains open to candidates for the Jakarta gubernatorial election and has not yet decided whether to support Anies Baswedan, who served as the capital city’s governor from 2017-2022.

"I personally would love to have Anies as the party's nominee because we will continue our collaboration. But I need to wait for the process in PKB’s local election desk and hold discussions with our regional chapters before making any decision," Muaimin told reporters at the parliament building in Jakarta.

Muhaimin was also Anies’ running mate in the February 14 presidential election.

"We will begin internal discussions about local elections, including in Jakarta, starting next week," he added.

However, Anies has not firmly stated whether he will seek reelection in Jakarta after his defeat in the presidential election to Prabowo Subianto, Muhaimin said.

Muhaimin mentioned earlier that PKB has several potential candidates for the Jakarta governorship from within the party, including Ida Fauziyah, who is currently serving as the manpower minister.
