Jakarta. Stringent security measures were implemented at the Jakarta Convention Center to ensure the fifth and final presidential debate on Sunday proceeded smoothly. The police deployed various units, including officers patrolling the area on horseback.

Mounted officers were assigned to sweep inaccessible areas around the venue, situated at the country’s largest sporting complex, Senayan, according to Central Jakarta Police Chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro.

"We have also deployed motor officers, foot patrol officers, and the K-9 unit to ensure security until the debate concludes,” Susatyo said.

Moreover, the bomb disposal unit was present to sterilize the building and its surroundings. Attendance was restricted to invitation-only, and supporters of the three presidential candidates -- Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo -- were kept out of the lobby.

This venue had previously hosted two debates for the vice-presidential candidates last month.

"We have evaluated the security arrangements during previous debates here. Last time we had the debate, there were numerous supporters creating noise around the venue, so we will keep them away from the lobby," added the officer.

Nearly 3,000 service members were deployed to the venue, supported by an additional 200 building security personnel to safeguard the area, he said.

The debate's agenda included discussions on social welfare, culture, education, health, employment, and human resources.
