Jakarta. Teguh Setyabudi, the Director General of Civil Administration at the Home Affairs Ministry, is set to be installed as the Acting Governor of Jakarta on Friday, succeeding Heru Budi Hartono, who has served in the role for the past two years.

Heru’s tenure expired on Thursday, and Teguh will take over immediately the following day.

Jakarta has been without an elected governor since Anies Baswedan’s term ended in October 2022, as the next election is scheduled for November 2024, following a new law mandating simultaneous gubernatorial, mayoral, and regent elections nationwide every five years. Teguh will hold the position until the newly elected governor is inaugurated in December 2024.

"The acting governor will be inaugurated at 9 a.m. on Friday,” said Aang Witarsa Rofik, a spokesman for the Home Affairs Ministry.

Teguh was appointed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, following a recommendation from the Jakarta legislature, which submitted a shortlist of three candidates for the president’s consideration.
