Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), raided the headquarters of the Directorate General of Taxes in Jakarta on Tuesday, seizing cash, electronic devices, and documents following the arrest of three tax officials over the weekend.

More than a dozen vehicles carrying KPK investigators arrived at the site before searches were carried out in several offices.

“As part of the ongoing investigation into an alleged tax bribery case, investigators today conducted searches at the Directorate General of Taxes headquarters, specifically at the Directorate of Tax Regulations and the Directorate of Certification and Valuation,” KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo told reporters.

During the raid, investigators seized documents and electronic evidence believed to be linked to the case, as well as cash suspected to have originated from the suspects, he said.

A day earlier, the KPK searched the North Jakarta tax office, whose three officials — including office head Dwi Budi — were arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes from nickel mining company Wanatiara Persada.

From the North Jakarta searches, investigators seized documents, CCTV recordings, communication devices, laptops, data storage equipment, and cash amounting to SGD 8,000, the agency said.

Dwi and two subordinates — Agus Syaifudin, head of the supervision and consultation unit, and tax assessor Askob Bahtiar — were detained on allegations of accepting bribes.

According to the KPK, the three conspired to reduce Wanatiara Persada’s outstanding tax liabilities from Rp 75 billion ($4.4 million) to Rp 15.7 billion, in exchange for payments totaling around Rp 6.3 billion, allegedly received in cash and gold.

A private tax consultant, Abdul Kadim Sahbudin, and a Wanatiara Persada employee, Edy Yulianto, have also been named suspects in the case.

The KPK said the scheme resulted in estimated state losses of Rp 59 billion ($3.5 million), stemming from the reduction of land and building tax obligations that should have been paid by the mining company for the 2023 tax year.
