Jorge Martin Takes Pole Position at 2024 MotoGP Mandalika Sprint Race as Marquez Crashes
Lombok. The 2024 MotoGP Mandalika has kicked off its qualifying rounds at the Mandalika Circuit, where Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing set the fastest time in Qualifying 2 (Q2). His time of 1 minute 29.088 seconds earned him the pole position, giving him a strong chance for victory in the sprint race on Saturday.
The Mandalika Circuit is known for its fierce competition and challenging track conditions, making it a highlight of the MotoGP series.
Martin's performance in Q2 showcased his skill in handling the hot and demanding circuit. He navigated sharp corners effectively and kept his bike stable throughout different sections of the track, positioning himself as a top contender for the 2024 MotoGP season.
Marco Bezzecchi from the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team secured second place with a time of 1 minute 29.623 seconds, finishing +0.535 seconds behind Martin. Bezzecchi has been consistent this season and his front-row position gives him a good opportunity to compete for a podium finish in the main race.
Mandalika Circuit Gears Up for MotoGP Race
Third place went to rookie Pedro Acosta from Red Bull GASGAS Tech3, clocking in at 1 minute 29.671 seconds, just +0.583 seconds behind Martin. Acosta has shown remarkable talent in his debut season, and many believe he could surprise everyone in the main race.
A major story from qualifying was the unfortunate performance of Marc Marquez. The Gresini Racing MotoGP rider had to withdraw from Q2 after two crashes, forcing him to start the race from 12th position, far below his expectations. Marquez has struggled at this circuit, making it difficult for him to compete effectively.
The top three riders—Martin, Bezzecchi, and Acosta—are not the only ones to watch. Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini from the Ducati Lenovo Team claimed fourth and fifth places, respectively. Bagnaia finished with a time of 1 minute 29.745 seconds, while Bastianini clocked in at 1 minute 29.792 seconds. Both riders are strong competitors and could also challenge for the podium.
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider Fabio Quartararo finished sixth, +0.760 seconds behind Martin. Quartararo has had an inconsistent season but hopes to capitalize on his starting position from the second row.
Weather in Lombok is another important factor. Sudden changes can affect race outcomes, and riders must be ready for varying conditions, from heat to rain.
With pole position secured, Martin has a great opportunity to win the main race at Mandalika. However, he will face strong competition from Bezzecchi, Bagnaia, and Bastianini, as well as unpredictable weather, making the outcome uncertain.
