Jokowi’s Approval Rating Highest since 2015: Survey
Jakarta. More than three-quarters of Indonesians are satisfied with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s job performance rating, the highest number of approval since 2015, according to a new survey published on Sunday.
Jokowi’s approval rating stands at 76.8 percent approve against 19.7 percent disapprove, as indicated in the latest poll by the Indonesian Survey Institute, or LSI. Only 3.5 percent of respondents provided no answer when asked about the president’s job performance.
Of the approving camp, 21.8 percent said they are very satisfied with the president’s job performance and 55 percent were moderately satisfied.
The strong public acceptance of the Jokowi government has held steady throughout the year in comparison to the fluctuating figures last year, LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan said.
It also came after a series of major events which could potentially hurt the public trust in the government such as the cancellation of Indonesia’s hosting of the U-20 FIFA World Cup, public outrage over lavish lifestyle among tax and customs officials, allegations of massive money laundering practices in the Finance Ministry, and a corruption scandal in the Communication and Informatics Ministry.
The majority of respondents, or 36.7 percent, are unsatisfied with the national economic condition, while 34.8 percent have a moderate view. Only 36.3 percent of respondents said they are satisfied with the current state of the economy and 2.2 percent have no opinion.
